Artificial Intelligence: Microsoft Is Adding New Functions To Cyber Defence

In the run-up to the RSA Conference, one of the world’s most important IT security events, Microsoft has introduced intelligent tools.

  • Microsoft Threat Protection is now available to users.
  • New security functions for Azure Sentinel and Insider Risk Management in Microsoft 365 are based on artificial intelligence and machine learning.
  • Microsoft Defender Advanced Threat Protection (ATP) will be available on other platforms such as Linux in the future.

Innovative technologies such as artificial intelligence and cloud computing enable new automated processes in the defence against cyber attacks. To further develop its security solutions, Microsoft uses the knowledge of 3,500 security experts and trains AI-based functions with 8 trillion threat signals every day.

As a result, the security solutions recognize and respond to risks twice as quickly as a year ago. Ninety-seven per cent of routine tasks can now be carried out automatically by Microsoft’s security applications with the help of AI.

Proactive Checking Of Emails And Applications

Microsoft Threat Protection brings together all warnings from the entire threat landscape and enables security teams to have a correlated view of and processing of threats. The solution proactively checks across users, email, applications, and endpoints based on artificial intelligence, including Mac and Linux. Microsoft Threat Protection is generally available now.

Microsoft Defender Advanced Threat Protection offers companies a unified platform for preventing, detecting, automatically investigating and responding to attacks. As announced last year, Microsoft is now expanding its offering for Linux and Windows and macOS. Offers for mobile platforms such as iOS and Android will follow.

Artificial Intelligence: Securing Hybrid And Multi-Cloud

With Azure Sentinel, a cloud-native solution for Security Information and Event Management (SIEM), Microsoft supports companies in securing their entire hybrid and multi-cloud landscape. Innovations for Azure Sentinel make it easier to collect data from various sources across all users, devices, applications and infrastructures and gain insights into security.

The Azure Sentinel Connector is now available and connects to Azure Sentinel for IoT workloads in use via the Azure IoT Hub. SecOps teams can now monitor warning signals across all IoT hubs and react immediately to potential risks with the connector. In addition, Microsoft offers the option to import AWS CloudTrail logs from February 24, 2020, to June 30, 2020, into Azure Sentinel at no additional cost.

Artificial Intelligence: Minimizing Employee Risk

Insider Risk Management in Microsoft 365 enables its IT department to minimize employees’ malicious or unintentional risk activities. By collecting signals from Microsoft 365 and third-party systems, the AI-based solution can detect anomalies in user behaviour and thus increase the protection of the company.

Insider Risk Management is now available worldwide – including an IP theft template and a preview of our templates for violations of company guidelines such as offensive language, threats and cyber-bullying between employees, as well as templates for confidentiality and security.
