Nest Airwave: Set Temperature Levels & Features Manually

What is Nest Airwave?

Nest Airwave is an excellent feature of the nest thermostat that allows you to save energy easily while using an air conditioner. This is because the Nest Airwave feature on the thermostat sends a signal to the air conditioner compressor to stop but would have the HVAC fan remain active and continue to circulate air through the inner coil.

To explain the difference, let us look at how it generally works for any air conditioner.

So the said two essential components are the fan (HVAC fan) and the compressor. The fan moves the air over cold compressor coils, allowing the cool air to pass over them and be let out, as said in the second law of thermodynamics.

Also to be kept in mind is that the fan uses less energy consumption than the compressor. Now the compressor, the central part of the air conditioner, contains the coolant, which again, by the second law of thermodynamics, is used to cool down the metal coils as it runs.

Now the difference that Nest Airwave makes is that when conventional air conditioners are turned off, both the compressor and the fan will be turned off. The Nest Airwave uses a unique algorithm to turn off the air conditioner’s compressor while simultaneously keeping the fan on, thus allowing cold air to pass through the cold compressor coils.

How Does One Set The Nest Airwave Feature?

The best part is that this standard feature will be preloaded and set with all the Nest units. They would be automatically activated when your home meets the Nest Airwave conditions and the humidity levels inside your house are low enough to function effectively.

How Does it Save Energy?

With the help of Nest’s “autotune technology program” that allows you to be a part of either one of the “Seasonal Savings” or “Rush Hour Rewards” programs that Help you save the energy that it consumes and allows you to keep an amount on your bill as well as reduce the pollution that is caused.

How Much Can We Save?

Through the Seasonal Savings program, Nest claims you can save about 10% on your bill over time. The rush hour reward program is mainly designed to reward those willing to do a few energy-saving activities, like turning down the air conditioning or heating during seasons that are more frequently used in hotter or colder periods.

You can enroll in this program by heading to the Nest Airwave website and collecting your rewards accordingly.

Does It Work For Central Air Conditioning?

If the user has central air conditioning, this feature is the most useful to you as it would help maintain the internal temperature of the entire area that it is spread over, Thereby making it much more efficient and easy to adjust the temperature as you wish.

How To Configure It?

The Nest Airwave function can be configured on the Nest thermostat using the Nest app, allowing users to turn it on or off as per their liking.

Hence, using the Nest Thermostat and the Nest Airwave feature, one can easily save energy and cost over time. The Nest Airwave function is also easy to configure, and most of the features on the Nest Thermostat are automated and require little to no effort.

Weather is one of the things that can never be fully predicted right. It frequently has unforeseen changes that require an extremely high level of prediction, which is impossible to attain.

Hence it wouldn’t be too far off to say that we’ve all experience days where the weather is just not in our favor, and it either gets too hot, too cold, or the humidity level rises incrementally; this is where electrical appliances like an Air conditioner or a room heater come into play.

However, it is a well-known fact that using these appliances takes a lot of energy consumption, especially for extended periods, and that this is also harmful to the earth and its surroundings, as it contributes to ever-increasing global warming. The Nest smart thermostat can make this process much more accessible and cost-efficient.

What Is A Nest Smart Thermostat?

The Nest smart thermostat is a smart home thermostat appliance, That can be used for performing various things like using IFTTT to adjust the Nest based on the outside temperature that is to use recipes that help calm down your place when it’s hot outside, increasing the temperature to have the room heated when it is cold outside, to manage humidity levels, etc.

IFTTT, or if this then that, is an application that uses argument-based formulas, known as “recipes,” that help operate the application better. Some of these IFTTT recipes are formatted for a few functions the Nest smart thermostat can perform.

For example: Using an IFTTT recipe, the Nest smart thermostat can help automatically vary the temperature to make it warm or cold depending on the weather conditions.

While the Net smart thermostat is programmed in a way that allows it to learn the optimal internal temperature for your house and will have it set to that, sometimes, in unpredictable situations, it can be more helpful to use an application that will immediately set the temperature that you may desire.

This is when the IFTTT recipes would be of help so that you can use a recipe and directly automate the internal temperature levels of your house to your preference.

Can We Set The Temperature Levels Manually?

Yes, suppose you want to be specific about the temperature levels. In that case, you can set up two recipes that would make the nest thermostat notify you when the temperature is above a certain level. Another to inform you when the temperature is below a certain level.
